This week consisted of ‘just doing’ the work to memorizing my lines.  I had a hard time starting the process of finding the right way to memorize my lines.  It took me a while until I realized I just had to do the work to get the results I wanted.  Though it was tough for me to get started, I found that the easiest way for me to memorize my lines is saying them out loud again and again.  Repetition is the only way I will be successful in my last performance.

This week Abdo and I plan to meet with one another multiple time to make sure we are on the same page with what we are doing when we are not together.  As for lines, I am confident that we will know what the stakes are so that we are able to stay grounded within ourselves and with one another. It is very exciting seeing how our scene is coming together slowly!

[Blog Entry #1 April 8, 2019]

Momoka and I have only had the chance to meet up a few times because of our schedules, so much of our work so far has been independent. I’ve been trying to work out what is at stake for Catherine’s character if she accepts Claire’s help, and why she might have such a difficult relationship with her sister since that’s not really explored in the play. I’m really curious to see how the beat analysis will affect our portrayal of our characters. -Amber

I think the scene we chose would reveal what's the relationship between Catherine and Claire is like and also their individual characteristics although the contents of the conversation is pretty light weight. By looking into how Claire talks to Catherine and what she ask/think about gave me an idea that Claire worries and feels responsible for taking care of Catherine. Even though they're family, the crash of their lives happens and I think that makes the relationship between them more complicated and interesting. -Momoka

This week Daniel and I discussed our characters. We wanted to figure out our given circumstances and our stakes in relation to our character. We did this so we would know how our characters would react in the scene. Daniel’s character, Sam, has been in love with Rose for the longest time. My character, Rose, just wants Sam to get to know her. She claims that he is in love with a fallacy, not a real person. We really used these given circumstances to develop our scene even further. I’m excited to see where this scene will go.

Me and Eli practicing our beat analysis (sorry for the sideways photo)

Me and Eli met up at the library this weekend so that we could work on our beat analysis. Working on our scene has been a challenging but fun task as we work hard to try and get our lines down. We look forward to now practicing the incorporated beats we have in our scene and see the difference it makes in our acting.  #finalscene #theater #fun

Hi this is Dae talking. Me and my scene partner Jr. will be taking turns blogging our experiences over these 4 weeks.
I wanted to tell you guys about our first week working together.
We've been practicing our lines everyday. Its been challenging, but I think we are finally getting the hang of it. We completed the beat analysis together and that was fun to do. It really helped us understand our characters relationship with each other. we will continue to keep you updated as we get better at our scene. Dae out!

We linked a funny video of us practicing our physical behavior !!!

What became important in last few rounds of rehearsal was really stepping into our characters and our scene. For instance, finding ways to genuinely listen and respond or actually taking off our pants became crucial in preparing. It became the task of listening and responding to what Terrell presented, rather than just reading a script. And then there was the part about taking our pants off, which took the comfort of knowing exactly how it had gone many times in rehearsal in order to properly execute it. Honestly, this scene became an act of Terrell and me entering into the space of the scene together, as a team and responding to one another in that space accordingly.

Before the final showing of our scene, Z and I met together on Tuesday. During the rehearsal, we went through the scene a few different times. We ended up getting more comfortable and playing around with the parts. That is how we ended up with Z actually trying to burn me with her cigarette during the final scene. It got easier the more we did it. By Wednesday, we were completely comfortable with each other, and I think that came through in the final scene. It was a good class.
