Lewis & Clark Moodle

On Monday in class, Georgia and I went through our entire play and deciphered which parts we needed to memorize more thoroughly. We scheduled a rehearsal for Tuesday, in which we put together an initial layout for our scene (pictured below) and determined the initial lighting, aside from performing to ourselves a few times to solidify memorization. We both felt good about the performance of our scene on Wednesday in class, but we couldn’t figure out what was quite missing. This uncertainty was mostly resolved by our rehearsal with Amber on Saturday evening - the lighting was improved to show our faces more, and the couch and piano switched positions to use the lighting to our advantage. We are still unsure how to incorporate the stairs prop, but will figure it out as rehearsals progress, both in and out of class. We also clarified the level of physical intimacy between Elias and Jenny, which will definitely improve the reality of our scene.

One challenge to face in the coming weeks is the particular part of the scene where Elias has to yell at Jenny. Amber offered lots of helpful insight in regard to it, but it is ultimately up to Gabe to deliver the lines in a way that justifies Elias’ anger while maintaining a distance from the content of the scene / action due to anger.

Sam and I are feeling really good about our scene tomorrow! We wanted to go over our lines before we meet again tomorrow morning. We just want to make sure we have our lines down and made sure we had our long and short pauses down. We are really excited to perform our scene and getting prepared to perform in front of an audience! Hope everyone else is feeling good, see you tomorrow!

This week we went to see the play John, which was especially interesting for Gabe and me, as that's the play that our scene is from. It was very interesting for us to see our characters acted out by other people, and to see how they interpreted the scene differently than we did. It helped us to have another perspective on our characters and to see different ways in which we could portray their motives. We are working on our actions in the individual scenes and showing what they are thinking through their actions. We plan to rehearse a lot more before the final performance on Wednesday.

This week we added props to our rehearsal. The use of the props, such as rolling papers, an envelope of money, and tissues greatly helped in figuring out blocking and timing. We were able to run through the entire scene several times and we feel good about it. 

Robert and I met up earlier today and were able to go over our lines and perfect our set up on stage.  We completely forgot to take a photo of our set but we will show you tomorrow in class.  Hope everyone is ready for there final scene on Wednesday! 

Dennis and I tried to recreate our set in my dorm room.  We tried our best! How does it look? 

We decided to run rehearsal late Saturday afternoon before our session with Amber. We worked a couple different things. We first specifically worked on the exchanging of lines between me and Robin and just working out some of the kinks regarding the flow of the lines. Then we changed some of our spatial relationships throughout the scene to try and encompass more of the space. This was something we struggled with last time, however I thought that we improved on that as well. We made changes to our script that way we can follow our own actions throughout the scene. 

One thing we are still working to improve on is a specific scene involving an exchange where Warren is starting to stand up to Dennis. We played around with some of the space, however we are not completely set on what we want our final actions to be however this is what we will work on in our next rehearsal. Overall the scene is coming together !

I don't understand. I saw Rose again, and she wasn't interest in anything I had to say. She just sat there, playing with her hair, staring at literally everything in the theater except for me. It's probably because I'm ugly. Fuck my nasty scaly back, who would ever love me looking like this. I look like some subterranean lizard creature that was a result of too much radiation exposure. Whatever, who am I kidding. Nobody would love me anyway, even my mentally handicapped fucking brother found love before me. I'm so tired of this shit, and all Rose has done is given me mixed signals. She's so damn confident, in the way she speaks and the way she acts; always singing and dancing through the rows. I'm over it. I should just accept the truth, and get good at golf or something. That's something I can do alone.

Today Rose seemed like her usual self, always playing hard to get while somehow managing to be flirty. She seemed sassier today, and in response I was definitely more pissed off at her. Why won't she just leave me alone? She doesn't love me or care about me, but she still sends the weirdest mixed messages. I hate Rose. What am I saying. I love Rose. Fucking Rose.

To clarify, this post was from our rehearsal on Thursday; writing this so the next post won't seem like I wrote 2 entries for one rehearsal.
