This course introduces students to a variety of research strategies used in the disciplines of sociology and anthropology. We begin with a review of key ethical considerations related to social science research. We then examine ethnographic, participant observation, and other qualitative methods. Next we review case study and comparative approaches. And finally we examine survey methods, statistical analyses, and other quantitative methods. Throughout the course, students conceptualize, develop, and write their own unique research proposals. Key learning outcomes include: strengthening the understanding of relevant methodological approaches; developing skills in writing research proposals; and strengthening public presentation skills.
