Course Description: This class introduces sociological ways of looking at the world: how society is organized and operates; the relationship between social institutions and the individual; sources of conformity and conflict; the nature of social change.
By semester’s end, if you do the assigned work, you should possess a solid college-level understanding of:
a) what sociology claims to be; and
b) whether you personally find sociology to be a valuable endeavor.
Taking this course will also hone your critical thinking skills; give you a new angle for understanding science/enlightenment; and deepen your reservoir of useful intellectual concepts, perspectives, and practices.
