The Latinx population is one of the fastest-growing minority groups in the United
States. It is projected that by 2050 this population will make up 28-30% of the U.S. population. The information and experiences provided in this course will better prepare you to engage in culturally responsive services with the largest ethnic minority in the United States. This course provides a general overview of best practices for serving Latinx students in the United States through an asset-based lens.Specifically, this course will examine different aspects of the Latinx student experience including K-12 education, higher education, immigration status, and the richness of intersecting identities that include the success of Latinx students. The course will emphasize small group discussions, collaboration with guest speakers, and lectures.
