This course begins with a review of assessments of the threats posed by climate change. We then spend the rest of the semester examining possible responses to dangers posed by global warming and associated ecological disruptions. We explore strategies that could be adopted at the individual/small-group level, at the community level, and at broader levels. Responses by political leaders, corporate executives, and organized social movements are also examined. As we move through the course, students will be introduced to social movements research, political-economy perspectives, and other approaches used in the social sciences. Key learning outcomes include: strengthening the understanding of relevant theoretical/conceptual approaches; developing research and writing skills; and strengthening oral presentation skills.
