This course will provide a strengths-based orientation to serving multilingual learners, emphasizing social justice. Content areas will include language acquisition models and the nature of second-language acquisition and proficiency, knowledge and skills to work with linguistically and culturally diverse families, multilingual curricular models and practices, instructional approaches and resources for educators, a history of multilingual education in the US, and legal, ethical, and professional practice considerations.
