The electricity system provides essential services, to individuals, homes, businesses, and society as, a whole. It has enabled modernization and economic, growth, and many believe it will become the, backbone of a fully decarbonized energy system., However, the electricity system is facing severe, challenges due to long-delayed investments in, essential infrastructure, ongoing debates about, how the electricity system should be regulated,, climate change and extreme weather, and growing, demand driven by computing technologies and the, electrification of transportation and buildings., , This course will examine the legal, economic,, structural, and social issues involved in, electricity regulation and policy. Covered topics, include: the history and evolution of regulation, of electric utilities as monopolies, utility, ratemaking, traditional state jurisdiction over, utilities, the Federal Power Act, electricity, restructuring and energy markets, electricity, transmission, and an introduction to renewable, power policies.
