This course invites educators to reimagine, mathematics teaching and learning through the lenses of equity, identity, and social justice. Grounded in Choosing to See: A Framework for Equity in the Math Classroom by Pamela Seda and Kyndall Brown and High School Mathematics Lessons to Explore, Understand, and Respond to Social Injustice, this course explores how mathematics can serve as both a mirror and a window-reflecting students' lived experiences and opening pathways to understanding and transforming the world around, them. Through the ICUCARE equity framework from Choosing to See participants will examine their own beliefs and practices to uncover barriers that have historically marginalized students-particularly Black and Brown learners-in mathematics. Educators will learn to "choose to, see" the brilliance, agency, and mathematical potential of every student, using care and intentionality to create classroom cultures where all students are positioned as capable mathematicians.
