This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the classification, anatomy, behavior, and ecology of insects and their close relatives. As the most diverse animal group on Earth, insects inhabit nearly all terrestrial and many freshwater ecosystems. Students will explore core ecological principles as related to their application to entomological topics including conservation, biological control, pollination, and insect-vectored diseases. Lab sessions complement lecture material through specimen examination and the creation of an insect collection.
