Moodle 5.1 Update for 2026-27

Moodle will be updated from 4.5 to 5.1 on August 12, 2026 with downtime from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m. We apologize for the inconvenience during this period. We will work to get Moodle back online as soon as possible.

This update includes two major changes worth knowing ahead of time.

There is a new Activities Overview view that provides teachers and students with a consolidated look of course activities grouped by type. This helps everyone quickly see a list of all activity information such due dates and how many items need grading as well as a list of all course files, pages, and other resources.

Quiz Questions and Question Banks will see several changes. Questions will also have a status of either “Draft” or “Ready.” Only ready questions can be added to a quiz. There will be two types of question banks.
Quiz-specific banks for questions tied to just one quiz.
A course-level shared question bank for questions shared and reused across courses. If you'd like a visual walkthrough, Moodle has a short overview video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK1HtwOp-LU.

Reach out with any questions in the meantime. If something does not work as expected or you have questions post-update, please email the Service Desk, and a ticket will be routed to the Educational Technology team. For urgent assistance, call the Service Desk at 503-768-7225 to reach an Educational Technologist
