The goal of this course is to introduce a diverse field often referred to as “neuroscience”, but has been known by many different names since its birth in the late 1800s. We will survey physiological processes related to behavior and cognition in human and nonhuman species, as well as other biological mechanisms that are relevant to issues in psychology. Topics include basic functional neuroanatomy, neuronal structure and function, and the relationship between brain systems, psychosocial variables, and complex cognitive, perceptual, and emotional processes. We will also discuss neurological, neuropsychological, and psychiatric conditions. In addition to serving as a general survey of the biological aspects of psychology, this course prepares students for more advanced neuroscience offerings (e.g. Psy 350, Psy 355, Psy 380, Psy 410).

You cannot get course credit for both Brain & Behavior and Psych/Bio 252 (Introduction to Neuroscience). If you have already taken Intro to Neuro, you should not take Psy 280
